If you’ve been to the shop, no doubt you’ve “oohed” and “awed” over the tiny ceramic kitties and elephants in the front room. Like me, you may have wondered whose talented hands could create something so small. Those talented hands would belong to Stephanie Orr, a Zanesville artist who works with ceramics and textiles.
I first met Stephanie through Marietta Marketplace when she came aboard for one of the early events. I was smitten with her ceramics and embroidery items that featured insects; a needlework fly in a wooden hoop is showcased on my own bookshelf.
When you visit Stephanie’s Etsy site, you’ll discover her charming Emoji mugs and hand crafted glazed mugs. But she seems to mostly enjoy creating her miniatures and explains “I find inspiration in the ordinary object, as well as the ornate. Miniatures relate to a secret presence, one that presents a constant daydream of a life within a life.”
Lucky for us, Stephanie has chosen Wit & Whimzy to showcase her art here in Marietta. Itty Bitty Kitties, elephants, miniature Cure-All bottles and tiny ceramic Bee cups are sure to charm their way into your heart. If you’re looking for a way to show your Ohio pride, ceramic magnets and ornaments are ready to display or gift. Her brightly painted sugar spoons and little trinket/ring trays will add a bright spot to your space.
Stephanie’s work evolves and expands, so when her package arrives at the shop it’s like opening a gift. I unwrap the pieces in anticipation and marvel at the handiwork and details. The best part of my job is watching visitors to the shop light up when they find the perfect item. That seems to happen often when they spot a piece of Stephanie Orr’s art.
